The electronically-controlled system displays an impressive level of traction on all manner of terrain, raises active safety and offers an outstanding degree of driveline refinement. Power to the wheels is managed by the AGILITY CONTROL suspension with selective damping system. Its shock absorbers adapt automatically to the condition of the road surface to ensure sporty handling and long-distance comfort. Another package known as ADVANCED AGILITY controls the suspension and transmission to give the Coupe or Cabriolet sportier acceleration. Like the Sedan and Wagon, the Coupe and Cabriolet are equipped with an electromechanical Direct-Steer system as standard. Gear selection is now controlled by the DIRECT SELECT shift lever and shifter paddles located behind the new three-spoke multifunction steering wheel. The lack of a gear selector knob creates more room for cup holders. A new electronic packing brake button is also visible on the dashboard. This eliminates the previous model’s annoying foot operated parking brake. Both cars have enough room for four occupants. Retractable rear side windows give both cars a four door characteristic.

The Cabriolet comes with an acoustic soft top with high-grade insulation. This ensures that the interior remains as quiet as it does on the Coupe even at high speeds. With the top down, the standard AIRCAP wind deflector helps reduce interior turbulence and wind noise. At speeds above 40km/h the wind deflector is deployed automatically and retracted back at speeds of 16km/h and below. The wind deflector between the rear head restraints responds to the number of occupants in the cabriolet.

When an occupant buckles the rear seat belt, the front and rear wind deflectors extends to ensure moving air passes over all occupants. The Cabriolet front seats also feature an AIRSCARF neck-level heating system that blows warm air around the neck. The Cabriolet seats are also heated to ensure the car offers a comfortable open air-driving experience even at low temperatures.

This alerts an inattentive or drowsy driver. It also lets the driver know his/her level of fatigue by calculating the driving time since the last break. Other optional assistance systems include DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist that can help the driver keep the vehicle centered in its lane and can semi-autonomously track lines of traffic. Next is Brake Assist system BAS PLUS with Intersection Assist. This is able to detect crossing traffic and pedestrians and also boost the braking power applied by the driver accordingly.

The Brake Assist System works with PRE-SAFE to trigger occupant protection measures to reduce the forces to which occupants are subjected. It can also firmly apply the stationary vehicle's brakes in the event of a rear end collision to prevent secondary accidents. The Active Lane Keeping Assist now can detect when the adjacent lane is not clear, including when it is occupied by oncoming traffic. If a collision threatens, even if the lane marking is not a solid line the system can prevent the vehicle from leaving its lane unintentionally by applying the brakes on one side.
