Peugeot 4008

Before I start telling you how good the new Peugeot SUV is, I have a small confession to make. I used to hate the idea that there was a Peugeot SUV out there. The feeling was further worsened by the fact that it had little in terms of good looks. I even at some point recommended that they should have never made the SUVs in the first place. I was so wrong. Just look at the new 4008; it’s just simply astonishing!

LION INSPIRED DESIGN

The front design consists of the floating grill, which brings out the new Peugeot design language. The feline like front lamps (that feature daytime running LED lamps) and huge front intakes (finished with chrome strips) all add up to give it an impressive front look.

They also give it an aggressive look probably to echo the characteristics the lion that sits at the top of the bonnet. At the side there are body and wheel arch protection trims that not only protect it shinny body but also help to enhance it’s off road capabilities. The side appeal is further boosted by its huge 18 inch paws. At the back the lion characteristics are visible thanks to the three red claws sculpted lamps. There is also an integrated rear spoiler and a chrome boot lid that is visible below the majestic Peugeot lion. 

ROARING POWER PLANTS

The 4008 will be available with a choice of four engines. There is a 1.6 litre petrol engine that generates 116hp and 152 Nm of torque. The engine is married to a 5-speed manual transmission system. There is also a diesel version with similar capacity that produces 112hp and 270 nm of torque. The engine comes with an over boost system that can increase the torque to 280Nm. The engine is connected to a 6 speed manual transmission system. Another version is a 1.8 litre diesel engine that gives out a remarkable 150hp. The engine’s torque figure is pegged at 300Nm. This is also mated to a six speed gear box. The powerful version is a 2.0 litre petrol engine that has a pulling power of over 150 horses. It’s connected to a 5 speed manual gearbox.

The four-wheel drive version of the 4008 lets the driver choose between three driving modes. They modes are the "2WD" two-wheel drive, "4WD" four-wheel drive and "LOCK" locking of the four-wheel drive. In the two four-wheel drive modes (“4WD” and “LOCK”) the distribution of the torque between the front and the rear is managed electronically. In “LOCK” mode, the four-wheel drive transmission becomes permanent, with even greater distribution of torque to the rear wheels.

EXTRA ROOMY INTERIOR

Although it’s overall size has been reduced by 30 cm (the size of a Haco ruler if you are from area code 254), the engineers have retained its wide size to further boost occupant space both at the front and the rear.  There is enough room for five occupants and a large boot for storage of items.

The interior feel has been boosted thanks to the choice of materials like soft textures at the front and near the instrument panel screen.  There are also LEDs located next to the passengers that help in the night/dark light illumination for reading and getting around in the 4008. Other touches include, a touch screen navigation system, and reversing camera that further enhance the general feel of the feline. The icing on the cake is a glass panoramic roof provides extensive light for the occupants in the passenger compartment. 

I don’t know about you but as for me I know regard the 4008 as a must have SUV.
