Info Post

When Lamborghini donated the Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia to the Italian Highway Police Department back in 2009, it was at that time the fastest production Police car on the planet. It had an impressive 560hp and a top speed of 327km/h. That in my opinion was more than enough to combat crime in the highways of Italy. However back in Germany its small cousin was busy being trimmed up to take its place.

The result of tuning company effort was the formation of the ABT Audi R8 GTR Polizei edition that won the challenge for the title of the fastest Police car on the planet. What ABT did was take a normal R8 and fitted it with new suspension, new ceramic brakes, a stainless steel rollover bar, 19-inch wheels and also fitted Recaro sports seats.

The body was also restyled to make it more aerodynamic compared to the normal R8 and to top that off the rear of the car was fitted with a large spoiler that helps push the rear wheels further down to the ground. It’s also fitted with a Police light bar and a reflective paint scheme with Polizei inscriptions on it.

Under the bonnet, the 5.2 litre V10 adopted from Lamborghini is replaced by a 5.2 litre FSI V10 engine that produces 620hp. The car can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h takes just 3.2 seconds. Criminals should be aware that it also has an impressive top speed of 328 km/h. Should it be involved in a chase with criminals, GTR Polizei will only need 9.9 seconds to reach 200km/h.

In order to ensure that the power can be optimally applied on the road height-adjustable ABT Sports suspension and adjustable dampers are fitted to the police car.

Criminals beware

To slow down safely the car is fitted with a ceramic brake system. The system uses modified brake pads and ceramic disc brakes to offer the best deceleration times from its impressive top speed.

This crime buster will help in apprehending speeding busters on the autobahn in Germany in my own opinion. Great work ABT on giving criminals something to worry about. Sadly the vehicle is not available to other police forces in the world.
