If you need to transport more than four people and their luggage, it's hard to think of a more desirable vehicle than the new Mercedes-Benz GL-Class. Its high price may give you pause, but if you can afford this versatile heavy hitter, you'll find it to be an all-season all-star. The 2014 Mercedes GL-Class continues to setting new standards in comfort, dynamics, safety, elegance, and efficiency. The Mercedes GL-Class is available in two versions: The GL350 and GL500.

Looks
At the front, the design is dominated by the 2014 Mercedes GL's typically upright radiator grille with its central star and the clear, high-quality design of the headlamps. The standard Intelligent Light System headlamps across the range, give a high-quality, exclusive and innovative impression. The daytime running lamps, which feature LED technology, are integrated in a chrome strip on the bumper and underneath the radiator grille.
Striking front
The large under-body panel, finished chrome, rounds off the self-confident appearance of the front. The well-balanced proportions of the side view underline the vehicle's on-road capabilities while the 2014 Mercedes GL’s great ground clearance point to its suitability for off-road. A two-piece LED lamps, a large roof spoiler, bumper (with its modern "wing design") and a large chromed area of the under-body panel complete its rear appearance.
Larger than any other Mercedes-Benz SUV

Performance
Both the BlueTEC engine for the 2014 GL 350 and the 2014 GL 500’s BlueEFFICIENCY unit, with supercharging and direct injection, have extremely efficient and outstanding performances. The GL 350 features a 6-cylinder 3.0-litre (BlueTEC) power plant with 190 kW (254 hp) and 620 Nm of torque. 0-100 km/h takes 7.9 seconds while top speed is rated at 220 km/h.
Versatile interior
The powerful GL 500’s features an 8-cylinder 4.6-litre (BlueEFFICIENCY) power unit with 320 kW (429 hp) and 700 Nm of torque. The GL500 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. All versions of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz GL are well-equipped for going on tours off-road.
Under the bonnet
The standard off-road package includes the permanent four-wheel drive 4MATIC and a driving-off assistant called the Downhill Speed Regulation (DSR).
Fuel efficiency is boosted by the new seven-gear automatic transmission (7G-TRONIC PLUS) as well as the standard ECO stop-start function. The GL 350 needs 8.0-litre of fuel to cover 100 km while the GL 500 needs 3-litres more of fuel to cover the same distance. The 2014 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class rides on light alloy front and rear suspension links. The use of alloys rewards the Mercedes GL with two qualities; supple ride and reduced weight.
Cockpit

Interior
In addition to its extremely comfortable ride with excellent dynamic driving features both on the road as well as over very rough terrain, the 2014 Mercedes GL-Class spoils its passengers with an interior which comes up to the first class standards of a luxurious saloon. Up to seven passengers are able to enjoy the outstanding seating.
Second row seats
The elegant interior decoration features high-quality materials such as wood, aluminium and high quality leather. The 2-3-2 seating arrangement provides a generous amount of space. In comparison with its predecessor, the passengers have been given a great deal more elbow, shoulder and headroom in all three rows of seats. As a standard feature, the third row of seats can be folded down and up electrically.
Rear design

Verdict

The generous cargo space and the comfort features are perfect for long family trips. The 2014 Mercedes GL-Class’ rock-solid stability and plush ride are especially appreciated when travelling through the potholes on rain-soaked roads or on some poorly maintained roads.
