BMW 6 SERIES COUPE

Avaliable as a coupe or convertible

BMW has just released a new series of their amazing 6 series range. My God have they made it more appealing. It now slightly longer than it predecessor and boast lots of new technologies. 

Amazing even with the roof down

First in it basket of cute gift is the overall redesign that gives it a distinct coupe like look. Flowing lines and harmonious curves create a feeling of athletic grace, complemented by extremely classy and eye-catching design features. The front still retains the traditional BMW status kidney grill. At each end are two bi-xenon headlights that come as standard.

LED headlights

The headlights consist of Adaptive LED Headlights for low and high beam. There are also LED light rings for the parking lights and daytime running. Although they make the beamer look good on the road, their main importance is to illuminate the road. By the use of LED the light is almost close to natural daylight. They also turn with the movement of the steering wheel hence helping the driver to see object while maneuvering the car round a bend.   

Interior of the coupe

Looks is something BMW have been known to score nothing close to zero in previous years. With the new 6 series, which has a swage line that extends out from behind the front wheel arches and extends dynamically along the side of the car to its rear; one knows that they designers have done more than just a good job. If BMW keep up with this trend, heads will be turning automatically. Am amazed, as not only have they just added lines on the side of the body but they have also worked with roofline, doors and the rear.

LED rear lights

Look at this bewitching creature from the back and you will soon understand why I am showering it with praises and sweet words. Bulging wheel arches accentuate the wide track of car. The edges of the boot lid and the license plate surround create a V-shape. 

Cute front look

On either side of the rear are exhausts tailpipes. On the BMW 650i Coupe they are trapezoidal in shape while on the BMW 640i Coupe they are circular in shape.

Hiding under the bonnet is a powerful V8 engine. 

Rear of the Coupe

The 4.4 liter V8 in the 650i produces 300 kW/407 hp. This takes it from 0km/h to 100km/h in just 4.9 seconds. As normal in all BMs the speed has been electronically muzzled at 250km/h. In terms of fuel efficiency, 10.4 liters per 100km. OK that might be high on our pockets but am glad to say there is a second option. This is available on the 640i coupe. It’s a 3.0 liter six-cylinder in-line engine.  

Side view

 The twin turbo works hand in hand with direct injection and what BMW call VALVETRONIC to optimize and make the engine more efficient. Although it takes 5.4 seconds to go from 0km/h to 100km/h, it can still propel the car to it limited top speed of 250km/h. The good news is it more fuel efficient than its V8 sister. It will only need 7.7litres to cover 100km 

Cockpit

Married to both engines is an eight speed automatic sport gearbox. It offers rapid and smooth gear changes, giving the car an overall smooth response on the road. Another innovation is ECO PRO mode which unlocks the car efficiency-boosting potential. It shifts the characteristics of the automatic gearbox to favor a consciously relaxed and frugal driving style at low engine revs. At the same time, it ensures that there is efficient power usage for electrically operated functions such as the climate control system, the seat and exterior mirror heating making the car more fuel efficient. One can also switch it to manual mode and enjoy the pleasure of using paddle shifters located behind the steering wheel.

With the roof up

Dynamic Damper Control and Dynamic Drive active roll stabilization ensure the power sent to the wheel is perfect at each given time and at the same time ensure that the car four wheels stick to the surface. The electronically controlled dampers adapt to both the nature of the road surface and the driver's style to prevent unwanted movements in the car body. Thanks to both this systems drivers can make their choices on how they want their suspension to be like. There are three different modes; NORMAL, SPORT and SPORT+. In NORMAL mode one can choose between COMFORT and ECO mode. With the last two option selected, car has a more gentle and sooth response but as you switch to sport mode the ride get stiffer and the car responds quickly at the touch of the pedal.

Plenty of room for the rear passangers

Anti-lock braking system (ABS), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), the Start-Off Assistant, the automatic Brake Drying function and brake fade compensation all work round the clock to ensure a safe, efficient and refined driving pleasure. Standard equipment also includes 18-inch light-alloy wheels on the new BMW 650i Coupe or 17-inch rims on BMW 640i Coupe. Both come with run flat tires as standard with all Beemers

Bang & Olufsen High-End Surround Sound System

Inside the 6 series one will notice that the centre section of the instrument panel, the Control Display, the central air vent, the controls for the audio system and climate control are angled slightly towards the driver. The front seats offer the best in terms of comfort. They are heated and massage the driver. The rear seats also have a very pleasant level of touring comfort thanks to their individual-seat character and greater shoulder and elbowroom. There is also more headroom for all the passengers, despite the reduced overall height of the car. It can also accommodate 460 liters of your stuff in it boot.

Surround sound

Other standard equipments include 2-zone climate control, a multifunction steering wheel, electric steering column adjustment, electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors, Cruise Control with braking function, a rain sensor with integrated automatic driving lights control, and a HiFi audio system complete with nine speakers, MP3-compatible CD drive and AUX-IN connection.   

6 series convertible

However one can choose Bang & Olufsen High-End Surround Sound System. The system produces an exceptionally natural sound from 16 speakers distributed around the cabin. It is a fully active system featuring digital signal processing, which means the two bass speakers, seven mid-range speakers and seven tweeters all have individual amplifiers.

Rear seats
